FAQ
Answers

1.    How long does it take to cook a solar meal?
It all depends on the strength of the suns energy, the time of year, the weather and how close you live to the equator. The closer to the summer solstice, June 21st, the stronger the sun’s energy however 3 months on either side of the solstice is considered prime solar cooking season also. On average casseroles, desserts, breads and meats take 2-3 hours to cook on a sunny day here in the Northwest.  You may also use your solar oven in the winter if you have sunshine in your area it just takes twice as long to cook.

2.    Can I use my solar oven on cloudy days?
A few passing high clouds are ok however for the most part clear skies are best.

6.    How often do I need to turn my solar oven toward the sun?
You should check on and turn your oven slightly about every 40 minutes. You may however leave for a couple hours by pointing your oven where the sun might hit half way through cooking. (Example) if you leave at 10:00 and plan on returning at 12:00 or 12:30, point your oven at where the sun might hit at 11:00. Your food will be done and hot when you return!
